The Antoinettes are taking six girls to New Waverly, Texas on June 18 for an elite competition being held by Bela Karoly, the former coach of Nadia Comenenci and other Olympic gold medalists. The other four athletes were competing on the advanced competitive level and included: Shani Pollard in novice; Amy Pfeiffer in open; and Samantha Rowley and Andrea Dowdall in the senior. The divisional teams are comprised of six members each and Oakville stacked its divisional team with two members on the preâ€"novice team (Litsa Sotiriou and Laura Eansor) and an incredible four members on the noviceâ€" one team (Courtney Alexander, Jaime Nugent, Blaire Houde and Nicole Don). The club also had one member â€" Andrea Gustufson â€" competing in first level junior (12 and 13 year olds). Over the past couple of weeks, the provincial gymnastics championships have been held in various Ontario cities, and the Antoinettes were well repâ€" resented with 11 competitors. The club showed remarkable strength in the first competitive level where both the preâ€"novice (9â€"yearâ€"olds) and noviceâ€"one (10 and 11â€"yearâ€" olds) helped their division (one of seven in Ontario) to the team gold These young athletes helped the Oakville Antoinettes Gymnastic Club post some good results at the recent provincial championships. For a limited time only * "It‘s a great way to play an old favourite" Allâ€"star rugby match The Crusaders Rugby Club is hosting a rugby match between the Toronto Rugby Union allâ€"stars and Newbridge, one of Wales‘ best rugby clubs on Wednesday (May 25). There will be more than a few national team players suiting up for both sides. The Oakville tournament fee is $15 which includes lunch and refreshments after the tourâ€" nament. The top boy and girl in each of these age categories will be eligible to compete at the district championships which will be played at Hamilton‘s Chedoke Golf Club on Wednesday, June 29, with fees paid by the Oakville Optimist Club. The top three golfers (two boys, one girl) at the Hamilton tournament, in turn, move on to the next step â€" the Optimists Junior world tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego from July 16â€"23. All expenses are paid. The Oakville Optimist Club is again sponâ€" soring a local junior golf tournament with the winners qualifying for the district champiâ€" onships in Hamilton. The Oakville tournament, which will be played at Deerfield Golf Club on Sat., June 25, is limited to 48 players who will compete within three age groups â€" 9 to 12, 13 and 14, and 15 to 17 years of age (note that age categories cut off at July 21). Optimistically speaking Dakville sports brie! The club is guided by coach George Tinnerman and assistant coaches Lala Alexanian and Oakville resident Louis Des Rosiers. The membership fluctuates, but at this point there‘s about 16 divers â€" mostly youth, but some adults. The first place finishers were Jason Lefler of Brantford, Leah MacKay of Burlington and Ryan Hauk of Brantford. The secondâ€"place finâ€" ishers were Tabitha Reed, David Caron and Jennifer Bowlby, all of Burlington. The lone Oakville member at the provincial championships was Claire Martin who ended up sixth in her event (girls 16â€"years and older, level two, one metre). 4. Highlights for the regional club, which holds practices in Oakville and Burlington, included three firstâ€"place finishes and three secondâ€"place finishes. President chooses Oakyville Hundreds of athletes will converge at River Oaks Community Centre this Sunday (May 22) for the Oakville Spring Duathlon. The athletes, including at least 18 from Oakville, will run 4 km., bike 30 km., and then finish off the day with another 4 km. run. It‘s the second of a 13â€"event series sponâ€" sored by President‘s Choice at various locaâ€" tions throughout the province. The race starts at 9 a.m. and the awards will be handed out at noon. Taking a dive The Gatquatic Divers finished fourth at the recent Ontario tier two provincial champiâ€" onships which were held in Waterloo over the weekend.
