Herman â€" who paddled into Bronte Harbor Thursday afternoon, just two days before he finished his trek in Toronto â€" said he‘d love to continue his charity adventure. But more than raising funds, Herman said his main mission was spreading the word about cancer, which in one form or another touches one in three Canadians. "For me, the main goal has been awareness of the disease and what the Cancer Society does," says Herman, who left Thunder Bay on May 14th. "One of the greatest pleasures I‘ve had are the connections I‘ve made on this trip," says Herman, recounting the time on Canada Day when a veteran hugged him and thanked him for his efforts. Fundraising events of this type are often undertaken by individuals â€" like Terry Fox â€" who have been Swimming droundâ€"â€" forced to deal with illness headâ€"on. While several of Herman‘s friends and family members have battled cancer, he remains free of the disâ€" ease â€" hence the motto A Celebration of Life.
