So when Tammy Smith, YMCA of Oakville supervisor of staff and volunteer development, received a phone call a few months ago that a local company would like to send in some volunteers for a day, she knew just where to put them. Javelin Technologies Inc. was keen to put its employees on the front line in the community and the YMCA was at the top of its list of community partners. Child and youth employee Jeannie Garton was thrilled to have Wayne Hewison and Rob MacEwen for the day. "At Javelin, our volunteer day is our way of giving back to the community," Hewison said. "It's also a great opportunity to meet and work directly with many of the front line people who provide outstanding community services. We chose the Y as one of the volunteer venues because of its strong leadership role in developing community programs for residents of the Oakville area."
