www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday September 21, 2007 - 37 Demuynck returns to Chamber Orchestra The Oakville Chamber Orchestra (OCO) welcomes the return of Dr. Charles Demuynck as conductor of its 2007 08 season. Demuynck was the OCO's music director from 1995 to 2002, when he resigned to take a university conductor/ teaching post in the United States. "I'm very pleased to return to the OCO," Demuynck said. "It's a wonderful group of musicians with a particular artistic niche that you won't hear elsewhere in Oakville." Demuynck has guest conducted extensively, including Orchestra London, Mississauga Symphony, Oshawa-Durham Symphony, Cathedral Bluffs Symphony, Etobicoke Philharmonic, Prince George Symphony, National Academy Orchestra, Royal Conservatory New Music Ensemble, Lethbridge Symphony, and the North York Concert Orchestra. His CD of Beethoven's Symphony #8 and Brahms' Piano Concerto #2 with pianist Gamet Ungar and the Vama Philharmonic is on the Americus label (www.americuscd.com). Demuynck's previous posts include music director of the Brampton Symphony Orchestra, City Centre Musical Productions (Mississauga), assistant conductor of the Knoxville (TN) Symphony, Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra (LA), director of orchestras at the University of Evansville (IN), and conducting apprentice of the Hartford Symphony. He is well known on the Oakville music scene as music director of Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and Orchestra, as well as St. Andrew's Catholic Church, and as vice president of the local chapter of the Canadian Music Competition. The OCO has been playing for 24 years. A volunteer group with a high musical level, it has collaborated with the Oakville Symphony and the Oakville Children's Choir on several occasions. The highlights of the OCO season include Harry Somers' Picasso Suite with a slideshow of Picasso's greatest works at the May 3-4 concert, as well as concertos by talented musicians from within the orchestra. These musicians include principal violist Eric Fahn, principal flute Linda Morgan, and Greg James playing Mozart's beloved Clarinet Concerto. The OCO will also perform the Canadian premiere of the Suite The Nations by Telemann, and a piece called Kaleidoscope written by the maestro himself, among others. Once again, the OCO will be performing at Central Baptist Church and St. Simon's Anglican Church. The three concert programs are Marvelous Mozart on Nov. 24-25, The Nations on March 1-2, and Music for the Eyes on May 3- 4. Visit www.oakvillechamber.org for more information.
