Loyola (5-5) upset Nelson (6-4) 2-0 on Thursday to advance to Tuesday's quarterfinals. Loyola will face the undefeated Christ the King Jaguars in Georgetown. Oakville Trafalgar received a bye in the opening round after finishing second in the Richardson Division with a 9-1 record. OT will host Burlington's Lester B. Pearson (83) Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. In other preliminary round games, Assumption defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 20 and Aldershot swept White Oaks 2-0. Junior Volleyball Oakville Trafalgar and Loyola are also alive in the junior boys volleyball playoffs, as are the T.A. Blakelock Tigers. Blakelock received a bye after finishing second in the Volpe Division with a 9-2 mark. The Tigers host OT at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Red Devils advanced with a 20 victory over Notre Dame on Thursday. Loyola hosts Milton's Bishop Reding. The Hawks topped the Richardson Division with a 9-1 record. That game is also a 3:30 p.m. start on Tuesday. Bishop Reding advanced with a 2-0 victory over White Oaks while M.M. Robinson eliminated Abbey Park with a 2-1 win. Football Holy Trinity will play at M.M. Robinson in senior boys division 1 football playoff action. St. Thomas Aquinas plays in Georgetown. Both games are 2:30 p.m. starts on Friday. In division 3 football, Iroquois Ridge plays at Burlington Central at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Senior Basketball Abbey Park (4-6) scored a 41-35 upset over Loyola (8-2) to advance to the senior girls basketball tier 1 semifinals. The Eagles will face another tough test as they will meet the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 4921 winners over St. Thomas Aquinas, Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Burlington. Holy Trinity got 14 points from Alena Luciani to advanced to the semis by downing Oakville Trafalgar 48-27. Holy Trinity hosts Nelson Monday at 5 p.m. Nelson defeated Iroquois Ridge 39-26. Junior Basketball In junior girls action, three Oakville teams will host games Monday at 3:30 p.m. Holy Trinity will host Loyola, which upset Oakville Trafalgar 49-45. Loyola was 4-6 during the regular season while OT was 7-3. Holy Trinity was a perfect 10-0 during the season. In the tier 2 playoffs, White Oaks (90) will host Bishop Reding (5-4) while T.A. Blakelock hosts Burlington Central (6-3). RANGERS RULE IN ROCHESTER: The Oakville Rangers Bantam AE hockey team defeated the Burlington Bulldogs 5-3 to win the A division championship at the Empire State Showdown in Rochester. Oakville advanced to the final by blanking the Southtown Stars 5-0. The Rangers outscored their opponents 201 in three round-robin victories. The Rangers recorded seven wins and two ties in their first nine games but they found themselves trailing the Stoney Creek Warriors 5-2 with less than two minutes to play Monday night. Oakville would stage a remarkable comeback, though, scoring three times with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker as they rallied to earn a 5-5 tie. The Rangers started their comeback with 62 seconds remaining, scoring to cut the lead to two. Just 18 seconds later, the Rangers would make it a one-goal game. That left Oakville with 44 seconds to go for the tying goal.
