To see what had them in stitches, turn to page 30. With spring only a week away, Town staff are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that this year's ferocious winter season is finally finished with Oakville. There are many reasons why a snow-free spring would be preferred, but for Oakville's Roads and Works Director, Dan Cozzi, the fact that about 70 per cent of 2008's winter control budget was spent in January and February ranks first and foremost. "We should be at around 40-45 per cent, which are our average winter budget numbers, but we're in fact at 70 per cent," said Cozzi. "That doesn't even include what we did on the weekend, which was a large operation." Cozzi noted that the proposed 2008 budget would allocate $4.18 million for winter control with $3.47 million going towards the plowing and deicing of roads while $710,000 would be used to plow and de-ice sidewalks. The harsher than usual conditions so far this year have forced the Town to go through around $2.9 million of that budget. While this winter season may almost be over, there's still November and December of 2008 to look forward to. See Potholes page 4 2008 MUSTANGS READY TO ROLL!
