BLAKELOCK H.S. night of splendour and surprises is what you should expect when you attend A Night Under the Big Top, T.A. Blakelock's fifth annual charity fashion show. It is a one-night-only event and it's always a full house, with up to 350 guests who attend to support our cause and enjoy a night full of fashion and fun. It is taking place this year on Thursday, May 22 in T.A. Blakelock's Studio Theatre at 1160 Rebecca St. The show begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. All proceeds are going towards the Sick Kids Hospital Foundation. The fashion show includes lines from local retailers located in Mapleview Mall, Oakville Place, Burlington Mall, Downtown Oakville, and the Town Centres (Dorval Crossing). Boathouse, Old Navy, Hustler, the GAP, Jean Machine, Denim 101, Laura and Moore's have all generously provided outfits for our student models. These models have been selected through a try-out process, they were A chosen based on their outgoing nature and the confidence they displayed on the runway. The models range from Grades 9 through 12, some with three years of experience under their belts, while for others; it is a first-time experience. There are also students creating their own lines of clothing for the event. Victoria Parker, Christine Sherry; Julia Cangemi; Elisa Marino and Hilary Chapin; Cydney Moore; J.J. Flegg and Patrick Donnelly for Three- Sixty Apparel; Justine Thacker and Serena Pasion are the students who are putting their time and dedication into creating original pieces to be modeled at the show by their selected student models. The Blakelock fashion show is a wonderful opportunity to show off their skills and creativity. The A Night Under the Big Top theme was developed by Grade 12 students Justine Thacker and Serena Pasion, who are in charge of the fashion show. Running the show is a big responsibility; there are many time consuming aspects to be organized before the big night. Justine and Serena explained that they wouldn't have given up this opportunity for anything. "It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We're grateful to have available the resources and support to put together an event on such a large scale," said Thacker. The teacher supervisors helping with the fashion show are Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Sandford, Mrs. Galbraith, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Lauzon; who is also showcasing her line of children's clothing at the show. "This is a great opportunity that we've wanted to take advantage of since Grade 10," said Thacker. The circus theme was developed to display the bright colors and dramatic elements that are all over the runways this spring and summer. "We wanted to include current trends, while adding our own creative twist," said Thacker. The atmosphere will be very theatrical. The show will be hosted by ringmaster and Grade 11 student Johnathan Fairweather. Tickets for this event will be on sale at T.A. Blakelock High school beginning Friday, May 16.
