www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 25, 2008 - 35 Legion's support helps Marlins to provincial medals STA summer volleyball camp Thanks in part to continued financial support from Oakville Legion Branch 114, the Oakville Marlins Special Olympics swim team recently sent four of its athletes to the Provincial Spring Games in Durham Region. Emily Boycott, Ryan Lamey, Dennis Gaul and Bill Hickson represented the Marlins, returning from the Games with many medals. The Legion presented the Marlins with a cheque for $2,500 at the club's annual awards banquet last month. The Legion's support has allowed many special needs athletes to participate and enjoy the sport of swimming over the past years. Special Olympics affords people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to benefit physically, mentally, socially and spiritually through sports training and competition. Anyone who knows an athlete that might be interested in the program, or anyone interested in becoming a volunteer coach with the club, is invited to contact Linda Hickson at 905-827-5359. St. Thomas Aquinas High School will once again be running a volleyball development camp for players ages 10-15 this summer.
