38 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 27, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Goodbye Eastview, hello T.A. Blakelock By Shanice Armstrong and Sydney Cudmore GRADE 8, EASTVIEW P. S. e have just about completed our last year at Eastview Public School. Some of our graduates are new to Eastview this year, but many of us have been attending this great school since Kindergarten. What a wonderful experience we've had here. Our Grade 8 classes went on amazing and fulfilling field trips. W One such trip was to the Royal Winter Fair, where there were many awesome things to do, such as the scavenger hunt. Another unique experience we had this year was to try a morning of curling at the Oakville Curling Club; we learned so much about this popular winter sport. Finally we saved the best field trip of all for the end of the year: we have just returned from spending three amazing days in Ottawa, our nation's capital. Our trip included museum visits (War Museums, Museum Of Civilization, The National Gallery), and a frightening experience in the (Haunted) Carleton Jail. We took a tour of the grounds of Rideau Hall, the home of Canada's governor-general and we even had a karaoke and dance night. All in all, we had the time of our lives. Thanks so much Miss McBride, Ms. Selnes, Mr. Gatsos and Mrs. Napier for chaperoning and spending this time with us. We'll never forget it. Aside from field trips, there were many opportunities to be a part of PET Profile FEATURING... PHOENIX Mommy said the shampoo is really her favorite.. Not mine though.. Those who were sports minded could get involved with many sports teams. Eastview offered basketball, volleyball and track and field teams. All teams did very well, including winning pennants and getting to finals. The athletics are awesome here and credit is due to the many great coaches who encourage every participant to excel and enjoy. We wish to thank Miss McBride, Ms. Selnes, Mr. O'Grady, Mr. Gatsos and Ms Cheevers. If cultural activities were a priority, Eastview offered many other opportunities to get involved, including jazz band, choir, concert band, public speaking, holiday concerts, movie making, and so much more. What a lucky group of Grade 8 students we were. The majority of us graduates will be attending high school at T.A. Blakelock, which will be scary, but exciting. The school will be so much bigger with so many more kids. We will go from being the oldest students at Eastview, to the youngest students at Blakelock and that's very intimidating. The thing that scares most of us is that we might not be able to hang out with all the friends we hung out with at Eastview, but meeting new people and making new friends is pretty cool. Hopefully we won't get lost in such a big place. We are more then ready to accept this challenge, leading us to the next chapter in our lives. Thanks so much to Mr. Mike Hawkins, principal of Eastview and all of the Eastview staff for the great opportunities and the great memories. Goodbye Eastview. Hello Blakelock.
