Oakville Public Library will be offering gaming Fwii Wii @ the Librarwii for students aged 12 years and older. So dust off those electric guitars and prepare for some guitar hero playoffs with your friends. Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Member Grace Ki, aged 12 years, thinks that OPL is offering an exciting new activity that will draw teens into their local libraries this summer, The Fwii Wii at the Librarwii will welcome kids and teens to step in to the library. For some, it would be for the first time, but they'd discover so much more than just Fwii Wii games. They'll fall in love with our selection of books, DVDs and music that once in; there will be no desire to get out of the wonderful air-conditioned haven. Our gaming activity will be a pilot project for the Oakville Public Library and will take place at our Central Branch Auditorium at 120 Navy St. throughout the months of July and August, every Tuesday 5-8 p.m and Thursday 1-5 p.m. Please ensure that participants are 12 years or older and bring their library card to register. "Offering Wii gaming at the library this summer supports the Library's and Town's objectives to create more welcoming community spaces for teens to gather and meet with friends. It's also a great opportunity for teens to come inside and check out all of the other wonderful free resources we have available to them," said Shauna Clinning, teen services librarian, noting that gaming at the library is a positive step. For our budding authors, we are delighted to offer our Teen Writing Workshop this summer. Award-winning author, Marsha Skrypuch will present the workshop for teens who wish to develop their writing skills and learn more about the world of writing from a professional. Marsha Skrypuch began writing children's fiction in 1992 and her first book, Silver Threads, was published in 1996. Subsequent books such as her more recent Aram's Choice have been nominated for many awards, including the Ontario Silver Birch and the Ontario Golden Oak awards. The workshop takes place at the Central Branch on July 8 and July 9 from 1-3 p.m. and students are expected to attend both days. Registration is limited and many spaces have already been secured. For more information contact Shauna Clinning, teen services librarian at 905-815-2042, ext. 5057. These teen activities and resources support the Town of Oakville developing Youth Strategy Plan for the years 2008 2013. Through public surveys, Youth Services were clearly identified as very important to the citizens of Oakville. It is the aim of OPL that our teen services will encourage and offer opportunities for our teen community to develop and blossom in every way possible. -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library
