Approximately 100,000 people will come to Oakville, according to Bill Paul, tournament director for the Canadian Open, and the big event translates to big dollars for local businesses. "We do an economic survey and most cities and regions will realize $18 million plus in economic value," said Paul. "It is also going to be carried on television in over 270 million homes worldwide and the broadcast team here will do a wonderful job of putting Oakville on the map." The Canadian Open runs July 21-27 at the north Oakville course, with the tournament days scheduled for July 24-27. Ticket sales are As Jon Walker returned to his East Side Crescent home early Monday night after another day of managing the high-end Knar Jewellery store in Oakville, he had no idea what awaited him. The Burlington address was the choice location for he and wife, Dawn, a teacher at Milton's J.M. Denyes Public School. It is an older, sleepy neighbourhood with big, leafy trees dominating the streetscape. As the 39-year-old native of South Africa gets out of his car, he's eager to see his wife, Dawn, and sevenmonth-old son, Jake. He walks into the glass enclosure that front's the house. Jon opens the main door and steps in -- horrified as he's confronted by a masked intruder pointing a gun at him. Dawn, 34, is tied up, sitting on the living room couch. She yells out for Jon to do what he is told. The intruder, she says, does not want to harm them but is after the keys and security codes to the jewelry store. Jon listens and complies. The safety of his family is paramount. "I saw a man pointing a gun at me," he said in an interview outside his home on Wednesday. "He was waiting for me the whole afternoon." The Walkers are speaking out after their harrowing ordeal that saw the couple tied up, gagged and held See Travel on page 5 See Hostage on page 3 IT'S BACK DORVAL DR.
