Senior dies of injuries from house fire By Tina Depko OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF An elderly Oakville man died Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in an early morning fire. The victim, who lived in a townhouse at 48-223 Rebecca St. with his elderly wife, passed away in hospital several hours after he was rescued from his burning house by fire- fighters. The incident started shortly before 5 a.m. when the elderly woman rushed next door to the neighbouring unit for help. Greta Murchie and her adult son Cameron say they were awakened by her frantic knocking. "She knocked on our door at quarter to five and I called my son because she couldn't help him (her husband)," Greta said. "We went to their front door, but the smoke was so thick you couldn't see the hall. It was terrible. I grabbed her and told her she couldn't go in." Cameron told his mother to call 9-1-1 and went into the smoking building to find the elderly man. "His wife thought he'd be in the bedroom, but that was the room that was on fire," he said. "I went there, but I couldn't find him. See Fire page 2 175 Wyecroft Rd. Oakville 905.845.6653 Between Kerr & Dorval VISIT OUR ALL NEW WEBSITE YOUR FRIEND IN THE BUSINESS! www.lockwoodchrysler.com
