During their final year at Wilfrid Laurier University, Fraser spearheaded an art-based event as a graduate project that raised more than $5,000 for breast cancer. The roommates collaborated on the event planning logistics, marketing and promotion. The two women are continuing to use this commitment to community endeavors by working with members of the Oakville Art Society, Sovereign House and with independent artists to coordinate the Oakville Artists "Yard" Sale on Saturday, Sept. 6 at four locations in Oakville. Fraser and Knox are working with this group of local artists to ensure that this event engages both the artist community and the residents of Oakville. Funds raised will support the $Million or More Oakville ($Million or More Oakville) campaign and the Stephen Lewis Foundation. $MOMO has an ambitious goal to raise $1 million over the next year. With the community's support and participation, this goal can be achieved. According to the Stephen Lewis Foundation for just $140 a vulnerable girl in Zambia will attend school and live in an empowering, positive environment for a year. When she graduates with vocational training, business start-up skills, or an undergraduate certification, she will have the capacity and self-esteem to build a future for herself. The registration fee of $20 for seven artists will raise enough to send this girl to school and put her on the path toward a brighter future. Half marathon, 10k run held Labour Day at Coronation Park The second annual edition of the Labour Day Oakville Half Marathon and 10K Run will lead runners on some of the town's most beautiful landscapes. This year's course has changed to encompass Linbrook Avenue and runners will also now experience all of Bronte Harbour. Both the half marathon (21.1km) and the 10K courses will start and finish in and around Coronation Park. "The course changes will eliminate some of the elevation from last year," said race director Joe Hewitt. "Getting rid of this incline will make the course faster and give runners a better opportunity to achieve a personal best time. The change will also move the start lines closer together, creating a more festive atmosphere," said Hewitt. In addition to the course changes, a new event has also been added; a 2K 48th Annual Family Fun Run/Walk. This new course is located within the park and is geared toward recreational or beginner runners/walkers as well as children.
