Novice Hawks soar to title in B.C. The Oakville novice 1 Hawks capped off a successful box lacrosse season by winning Tier II gold at the prestigious Jack Crosby Novice All-Star Tournament in Burnaby, B.C. Oakville started slowly, but improved as the tournament went along. After posting an 0-2-1 record in their first three games, the Hawks defeated Burnaby, Juan de Fuca and Delta to reach the final, where they dealt Delta a 7-6 loss. The Jack Crosby tournament has been sanctioned by the B.C. Lacrosse Association as the premier tournament for novice lacrosse in the province. It has been held for 23 years and is named after Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame member Jack Crosby, who passed away earlier this year. Crosby's widow, Arrianne, met with some of the Hawks players following the championship game to congratulate them. Members of the team are Matthew Baranyai, Matthew Danner, Kevin Dobko, Mike Dobko, Matthew Dilella, Jonathan Donville, Michael Hickey, Kyle Kolwich, Nick Leshuk, Johnny Mastromarco, Matthew Milford, Kyle Moniz, Malcolm Prentice, Nicholas Randell, Josh Rees, Matthew Thom, Jaden Walcot, Jayden Wiggins and Adam Wolf. Jason Donville is the Hawks' head coach. The team was third at the provincial A field lacrosse championships in June, and tied for fith at the all-Ontario A box championships earlier this month.
