Mladenovic, who was also first at last year's inaugural event, crossed the line in a course-record time of 1:07.12, while Toronto resident Tereza Macel posted the fastest time among women (1:25:35). The Labour Day Oakville Half, which also included a 10-kilometre run and a 2K Family Run/Walk, raised money for several local charities. See Friday's issue of the Beaver for more coverage. MICHAEL IVANIN / OAKVILLE BEAVER Football Titans impress coach in loss to American squad By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR The Mogadore Wildcats came out of the game with a win in their league's standings. The Holy Trinity Titans, meanwhile, walked away with a moral victory. The Titans accounted for themselves quite nicely in senior boys' high school football action Friday in Ohio, sticking with the host Wildcats for much of the first half before falling 52-31 to the American squad. Playing under the lights and in front of nearly 3,000 fans, Trinity managed to keep the game scoreless through the first quarter, and was down 20-14 late in the first half. A couple Mogadore touchdowns before the break extended the Wildcats' lead to 32-14 at halftime, however, and Mogadore broke the game open with two more majors in the third quarter. "The first half, we were pretty much toe-to-toe with them," said pleased Trinity coach Joe Moscato. "Then their conditioning and execution took over in the second half, and they pulled away." Jordan Catterall scored the Titans' first two touchdowns, hauling in a 32-yard pass from quarterback Rob Birtles for one score and then returning a kick 88 yards. Ashton Rochester, on a six-yard run, and Denzel John, on a 45-yard jaunt, reached the end zone for Trinity in the fourth quarter. The game was a pre-season exhibition contest for the Titans, who received special permission from the Halton Secondary Schools Athletic Association to begin practicing several weeks ago. Mogadore, meanwhile, had been practicing twice a day for more than a month, and had played two controlled scrimmages and one league game before the meeting with the Titans. Friday's clash counted in the Wildcats' league standings. Moscato came away from the game raving about the atmosphere of American high school football. "It's football country down there, for sure," he said. "It really reminded me of a university-calibre program, something you'd see at Mac or Laurier, and it was at a high school. It gives me a ton of ideas, but I don't know if we'd be able to do it here." The Titans resumed practice yesterday (Tuesday) and will play another exhibition game next week against Mississauga's Mt. Carmel. Trinity will open the Halton regular season the following week against the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils.
