12 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday September 12, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com The Regional CPAC examines Halton riding www.halton.ca The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is airing a profile of the Halton riding this weekend as part of its coverage leading up to the Oct. 14 federal election. CPAC's Vote 2008 host Martin Stringer travelled to the Greater Toronto Area this week to report on what voters in the riding are thinking and to talk with the political contenders. Oakville Beaver Managing Editor Rod Jerred was among those interviewed for the program. Campaign Politics in Halton will air tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 13) at noon and 8 p.m. Check the CPAC website at www.cpac.ca to confirm the air dates and times. The Halton riding consists of all of Milton and northern portions of Burlington and Oakville. The declared candidates for the riding are the area's current MP, Liberal Garth Turner, Lisa Raitt of Oakville for the Conservatives, Rob Wagner of Oakville for the New Democratic Party and Burlington's Amy Collard for the Green Party. "We put viewers on the ground so they can see how the election and the issues are playing out at the local level," CPAC's executive producer, Peter Van Dusen, said in a press release. "This is our version of reality politics TV; we're not just passing through, we're taking the time to get the whole story." CPAC is Canada's only privatelyowned, commercial-free, non-profit, bilingual, licenced television service. Created in 1992 by a consortium of cable companies to preserve an independent editorial voice for Canada's democratic process, CPAC provides a window on parliamentary, political and public affairs in Canada and the world. Since 1992, the cable industry has invested almost $50 million in CPAC.
