Members of the Ontario Federation of Health Care Workers (OFHCW) attempted to draw attention to this question, on Tuesday, with an information picket line in front of the Waterford Long Term Care Centre. The group, of around 20, took issue with the current provincial funding level directed towards long-term care facilities, which they say, leaves places like Waterford with neither the personnel nor the resources to offer residents the care they are entitled to. "It (the funding) doesn't even come close to deliver the care the ministry requires us to give to these residents, which they deserve, quite frankly," said Nancy Guzzo, OFHCW spokesperson. "It's not fun to work in long-term care anymore because we are not being able to give the type of care that we want to give." Amanda Dempsey, a dietary aid at Waterford, noted that she alone is responsible for preparing meals for more than 60 residents in the morning, all of whom have special dietary needs. Dempsey said the province requires food to be served at a certain heated temperature, but because she is responsible for so many, the food is often cold by the time it gets to the patients.
