Top curlers in town this weekend The Oakville Curling Club is welcoming some of the country's top men's teams this weekend as it plays host to the 2008 BDO Curling Classic. The BDO Curling Classic, officially sanctioned by the Asham World Curling Tour, is part of the qualifying process for the Canadian Olympic trials in preparation for the 2010 Winter Games. Action began today (Friday) and will conclude Monday, with the final slated for 1 p.m. Thirty-two teams are participating in a triple knock-out format, competing for a purse of more than $60,000. Twenty of those rinks are from the Golden Horseshoe/southern Ontario area. Some of the big-name skips taking part are defending Olympic champion Brad Gushue, former Olympic silver medalist Mike Harris, and former World champs Glenn Howard, Wayne Middaugh and Kerry Burtnyk. A limited number of weekend passes are available for $40, and single day passes are also available.
