A tour of Europe is the inspiration for the first concert of the season for Intrada Brass of Oakville at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. Euro Brass will present the Oakville band's resident soloists --The Three Virtuosi -- in solos for trumpet, euphonium and tuba, with the band contributing other national musical flavours. The soloists will perform music by Armenia's Alexander Arutiunian (trumpeter Robert Venables), Austria's Joseph Horovitz (Ivor Snell on euphonium) and England's Ralph Vaughan Williams (tubist Rob Brown). The band will open the concert with Moravian composer Leos Janácek's Sokol Fanfare and two contrasting short pieces by Russia's Dmitri Shostakovich, Folk Dances and Romance. Music Director Bram Gregson will also lead the band in folk music from Wales and Ireland. The concert will be the first opportunity for the band's fans to purchase IBO's new Christmas CD, That Holiday Feeling, which will go on general sale in November.
