The three hockey greats have issued a challenge to all Canadian minor hockey players, parents, coaches and officials to join them in promising to uphold the values of respect and responsibility in minor hockey. GHAC cross-country tomorrow Hennessy, Segeren expected to challenge for gold St. Thomas Aquinas' Colleen Hennessy continues to rack up wins heading into tomorrow's (Thursday's) Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) cross-country championships. Hennessy pulled away over the final 800 metres to win the Canatera Meet of Champions in Sarnia. The Grade 11 student finished the course, which will be the site of this year's provincial high school championship, in a time of 18 minutes, 4.5 seconds. That gave her a 7.5-second victory over Deanna Brasz of St. Catharines. Stephanie Hulse of Kingston, a fourthplace finisher at last year's OFSAA senior girls' meet, led for the first half of the 5,000m race before surrendering the lead to Brasz. Hennessy remained within striking distance and, on the first of two small hills before the final loop, passed Brasz and pulled away for the win. Abbey Park's Daniel Mathie finished second in the junior boys' race with a time of 21:00.9. However, Loyola edged Abbey Park 131-127 for the team title. At an earlier race, Hennessy set a course record at the Marcellinus Invitational, winning in a time of 18:46 with her nearest rival 1:45 back. Iroquois Ridge's Claire Segeren also set a course record at Marcellinus, winning the midget girls 3,000m race by 35 seconds in a time of 11:36. She moved up to the junior division for her next race, the Hawk Invitational, and finished sixth out of 150 runners. Hennessy also topped a field of 331 runners by 27 seconds to win the Hawk Invitational in 18:08. The GHAC meet will be held at Christie Conservation Area in Dundas.
