OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 29, 2009 · 40 Singers invited from the community to record song Continued from page 39 Moro soon came to realize the new composition was a contender for the song list for her upcoming debut album, Sometimes. The disc is slated for release in October 2009. However, during the Christmas holidays, she realized she wanted to take it one step further. The idea formed to record Will You Stand? with a gospel choir and release the single online to mark the first anniversary of the apology. Next, she decided she would send a letter to all members of Parliament and senators with the link for the song as a thank you to the federal government. She will also contact as many native leaders from across Canada as she can to make them aware of the song. Everyone on her mailing list will also get a YouTube link to a video of the recording session. "My communication to MPs and senators will thank them for taking that stand," she said. The recording will take place on June 4 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Appleby College's John Bell Chapel. Section rehearsals start at 7 p.m., followed by a full rehearsal, with recording starting at 9 p.m. So far, there are more than 40 singers signed up to participate in the recording, but Moro is appealing to more singers to come out from the community and donate their time for the cause. Singers should be able to read music, or at the very least, have a good ear and be able to learn music quickly. "Ideally, they'll have some experience singing in a choir," she said. "They should be able to pick up music very quickly." Moro is sending the score to schools, particularly high schools, in the area, as well as to music directors at local churches to recruit additional singers. The chapel at Appleby has a capacity of several Once the song is recorded, the vocal tracks will be added to instrumental and solo tracks that have already been recorded. Following some production magic, it should be available online for mass consumption by the June 12 anniversary. WILL YOU STAND? (Copyright@J.R.Moro, 2008) There is a day of reckoning, It may steal upon us without warning, As you look into the faces of those who've gone before, Will You Stand? Will You Stand? Will You Stand? There is a day of reckoning, Sometimes it feels like it is just around the corner, As you look into the faces of your children and the young, Will You Stand? Will You Stand? Will You Stand? Refrain Will you stand, strong in your convictions? Will you stand, knowing that you've done All that you can to right all the wrongs that you have found Will you stand? Will You Stand? Will You Stand? There is a day of reckoning, It will arrive when it is appointed As you look into the faces of the nations of this world Will You Stand? Will You Stand? Will You Stand? Moro said she is hoping to send out all the letters around that time, as well, to the federal politicians and native leaders. She will also be putting the track on her upcoming CD. The launch event of the debut disc Sometimes and a charity fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Appleby College. A copy of the score for Will You Stand? will be available upon request from Moro at no charge. She owns the copyright, but wants as many Canadians as possible to have access to the piece. As the mother of two young children, Gabriella, 8, and Zachary, 6, she said wanted to set a good example for them, as her father did for her when she was young. "I really believe it is important to model behaviour for your kids about making a difference," she said. "It is imperative that they see you taking a stand so they will grow up to be individuals who will be responsible, engaged citizens."
