OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, August 7, 2009 · 4 Join CALIPER project at Sheridan Hospitals across Canada are asking for the public's help with a project that, if successful, could improve the diagnosis and medical care of this country's children. The Canadian Laboratory Initiative on Paediatric Reference Intervals Database (CALIPER) project seeks to establish a current and accurate database of blood samples from healthy children and youths so doctors will be able to tell what is healthy and normal when a child with medical concerns is screened for a disease. To be truly encompassing, the project is hoping to get samples from healthy children of a variety of ethnic backgrounds and ages from birth to age 18. To help the project, digiKidz Camp will hold an open house on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 4-6 p.m. at Sheridan College's SCAET Building, Aquarium Room S301, located at 1430 Trafalgar Rd. Children who participate in the open house by filling out a short questionnaire and donating a small blood sample will be rewarded with $10, blood test results, two community service hours, their names included in a draw for a laptop and a choice of a Tshirt, teddy bear or storybook.
