6th AnnualTigerTel Oakville Charity TITLE SPONSOR Dragon Boat Festival Hearts of Dragons According to legend Dragons have precious stones in place of their hearts. Perhaps this is why Dragon Boating has become so cherished by Halton's Youth in Care. Young people who are growing up in the care of the Halton Children's Aid Society have faced rejection & family trauma; little surprise that many of these precious youngsters harden their hearts in self-preservation. Actually, these youth crave love and acceptance; and in the right environment their "Dragon Hearts" soften and they let down their guard for awhile. The Oakville Dragon Boat Festival is an event where our Youth can put their troubles aside and participate in something that makes them feel like champions. At the Festival they appear just like any other teens, full of confidence (on the outside), with lots of smack talk about which team is better. Because of this event they know what it feels like to win. Two years ago, when crossing the line in first place, the boat practically lifted clear out of the water with pride. It was priceless. The Dog Day Dragons were so deservedly proud of themselves; their confidence was real and came right from their toes up to their beaming smiles. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, event sponsors & volunteers for creating this fabulous event with memories our Youth will treasure.
