Ringwald nominated for NCAA award Oakville's Dan Ringwald has been named as a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The award is presented to an NCAA hockey player who makes a positive impact as a leader in the community and excels in four areas -- classroom, character, community and competition. Ringwald, now in his second season as the captain of the Rochester Institute of Technology men's hockey team, is the school's all-time leader in assists (78) at the Division I level and also holds the alltime mark for points by a defenceman (88). The former Oakville Blade is also a two-time first team All-Atlantic Hockey Association selection. Ringwald graduated from RIT's business program in three years with a 3.80 grade-point average. He is currently working on his MBA. Ringwald and his teammates frequently read to children at Margaret's House, RIT's on-campus daycare centre. The 23 year old also participated in Clean Sweep, a community service initiative of RIT's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. U18 Rockets go out on top The Oakville Rockets finished their eighth and final season on a high note. The under-18 girls' soccer team went 11-2-1 to win the South Region Elite Division, then won the South Region League Cup with a comfortable victory over rival Mississauga. The Rockets, sponsored by Soulspace Physical Therapy and The Muddy Duck Restaurant, also gave back to the community.
