OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 6, 2009 · 24 HUGE PIANO SALE Thursday November 5 · 10am-6 Friday November 6 · 10am-6p Saturday November 7 · 10am-5 Remembering Oakville at War not so long ago s we are approach Remembrance Day on Nov. 11, we are all reminded of the lives lost and families affected by war. Over the last few years, the Oakville Public Library has teamed with Oakville Museum and the Town of Oakville for a joint project to offer some personal insights of war, which would otherwise not be heard. Sixteen veteran interviews were produced for the online exhibition Oakville at War, a digital extension of the Shadows of War: Not So Long Ago in the 20th Century exhibit created by the Oakville Museum in 1999. At the turn of the 21st century, Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate asked the citizens of Oakville to donate digital reproductions of their war photographs and artifacts to its Shadows of War exhibit. Many war veterans shared their images and memories, while other contributors brought images that honoured their family or friends, some of whom had died in the wars. "Oakville at War is a unique collaboration amongst the several cultural institutions," said Gail Richardson, manager of online e-services at the Piano House Burlington offers New and Pre-Owned Upright Grand Pianos Yamaha, Kawai, Samick and much more... The Oakville at War project was funded by the Ontario Ministry of Culture. The project seeks to share the experience of war -- the camaraderie, excitement, sorrow and devastation. The veteran interviews may also be accessed through the following online routes: www.hometownstories.ca/, www.towntv.ca or www.ourontario.ca. Take some time and enjoy the personal stories that come directly from veterans in the community who have shared their experiences. The project hopes to capture more interviews in the future months, not only from those who fought in the wars, but from a range of individuals who experienced the war from different perspectives. Beth Norris, digital media cultural co-ordinator for Oakville Public Library is happy that Oakville at War will continue. "We would like to capture the memories of people who contributed to the war effort in a variety of ways, both at home and abroad," said Norris. The Oakville Public Library had a booth set up at the Veterans' Luncheon on Nov. 2 at the Oakville Conference Centre in hopes of meeting more people who would be willing to share their stories . **** The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is coming so visit for some great bargains.
