www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, March 31, 2010 · 22 Oakville business duo believes in the 90% Rule By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF An Oakville man and his partner know just how to expand a business and now they've penned that know-how onto book pages to help others do just the same. The 90% Rule was written by long-time Oakville resident Ken Tencer and his business partner John Cardoso. Tencer became a partner with Cardoso seven years ago in Spyder Works, a Toronto-area strategy and design firm. In that time Spyder Works' business grew 5,000 per cent using the same strategies the two outlined in their book. "Our book sets out a proven formula for safely managing continuous innovation," said Tencer, in a press release. "At a time when businesses are being urged to invest in developing new products and cracking new markets, we propose they build on what they already do well. By diversifying and expanding in an orderly, step-by-step process, com- panies reduce the risks of growth, because they already know 90 per cent of everything they need to succeed. They just move from strength to strength." He also added, "We developed The 90% Rule organically, because as an emerging business with limited resources, this was all we could do," says Tencer. "Some companies rush into growth, or raise money to fuel big expansion strategies. I wanted to create controlled, continuous growth, and that meant building on what we knew, over and over again." The 90% Rule will be available at Amazon.com and Amazon.ca as of April 1. On that day, Tencer will be the keynote speaker at the Burlington Economic D e v e l o p m e n t Corporation's Mayor's Luncheon. For more information on the book, visit www.90percentrule.com.
