(NC)According to a recent study from West Virginia University (WVU), physically fit children do better in school than their peers who are less fit. The researchers eval- uated the fitness levels and standardized academic test scores of hundreds of Grade 5 students in West Virginia. When they re- examined the same children two years later they found that academic performance dipped when the stu- dents' fitness levels declined, and increased when their fitness improved. At the Oakville School of Music & Performing Arts its more than just about music. While students study privately on their selected instruments the importance of community and performing is not over- looked. When we learn & share from each other, we create an energetic community that is respectful, and full of curiosity and inspira- tion. Monika Stolarz, School Founder. Students are given the opportunity to per- form within the school through workshops and master classes, as part of the private les- son program. The school believes that a vital part of learning music is being able to share the process with students of similar ages and levels. While students prepare for Royal Conservatory Examinations, as well as local music festivals, they are challenged to reach their full potentials in music through its cur- riculum. Currently the school offers private lessons in piano- voice- violin- and flute, and prides itself on its passionate and profession- al teachers. The school also offers a wide variety of group classes including music theory and history. Theoretical components of music give students the underlying principals of what they are playing, ultimately creating heightened awareness while they perform. Even the youngest of the schools piano stu- dents learn the language of music through an exclusive program called miniBach, named after the highly respected composer J.S Bach. Designed especially for children ages 5-9, miniBach works alongside private lessons to reinforce the understanding of the language of music. Unique to this school is also the Casa Music program & the European Enriched program. The Casa Music program is designed for young musicians 2.5 to 6 years of age, and was inspired by the Montessori Method of teaching. In Casa Music students discover and explore music through song, movement, leadership activities and story telling. The European Enriched program is designed for children and youth looking to advance their skills in music, through a rig- orous and challenging method. These stu- dents take part in lessons twice per week, and often lead in performing during workshops. A highlight of the school is also its spa- cious studio and teaching rooms, ensuring all Convenient weekday and weekend classes available at St. Aidans in Kerr Villageida in VillagAida err Call now to register. 905-319-8025 or visit www.psmusic.ca Music & Movement Classes Newborn to 7 Years 123 Maurice Dr, Suite 203 Oakville (905) 337-7104 www.oakvillechildrenschoir.org For the 2010 2011 Season Are being held in early September 2010 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION or TO BOOK AN AUDITION Call (905) 337-7104 Email info@oakvillechildrenschoir.org If your child: Is between age 5 - 18 Loves to sing Would like to develop their vocal, musical and performance skills Consider The Oakville Childrens Choir AUDITIONS 17 W ednesday , Septem ber 1, 2010 O A KVILLE BEA V ER w w w .o akvillebeaver .co m Core Shots Fitness Everything in moderation, including moderation Get back to your CORE with Personal Trainer, Shanon McMillan Private or group training available Private hands on stretch sessions FREE fitness consultation Certified Pre & Post Natal Specialist, Personal Trainer Core Kids Fitness Sessions Contact Shanon coreshots@gmail.com 647.290.8685 www.coreshots.com The worlds most rewarding investment aspects of learning ultimately benefit the student.
