Cue thelooks of disgust andpity. Of course, I can't expect maturity from my age group the majority of the time, so often I look to the adults to provide some insight. More often than not, it isn't there. I would like you, the reader, to ask yourself which side are you on? Life regardless of fac- tors? Or, the choice in the woman's hands? Also, what would you do? A lot of people lack a full understanding of the argu- ment and so I will do my best to help. Pro-Life wants to abol- ish the ability to abort in any and all regards. To it, abortion is akin to murder, for life begins at conception. It always surprises me when female rights activists are pro-life. I ask them, Aren't you contradicting yourselves? You're taking away the right for women every- where. Blank stare. Angry glare. Stomping away. People don't like to be proven wrong. At my school, you'll get the pro-life advocates put- ting posters everywhere in sight. The Pro-Life club is quite adamant on making it aware to everyone that they are there. A few weeks ago, there was an event held. You were supposed to be silent for a day for all the babies that never got to speak. It was organized by the Pro-Life club. I'm thinking that that's a pretty noble thing to do. The day comes, and every single person who participated in the event was, you guessed it, talking. The issue is complex and the question remains Not one member of the club could accomplish a fairly easy goal. So then, I ask you, what was the purpose of the event? What is the purpose of the Pro- Life Club? Who knows, but it sure isn't about sticking to what you believe in. Now, I'm not trying to bash pro-life supporters with abandon. Their views are their own, and respectively, they can keep them. I just wish to give an opinion piece on this feud. Pro-Choice wishes to leave the decision up to the woman, empower her, give her the right to choose what to do with her body. Shouldn't the rights of women be pinnacle? All I'm really trying to say is, we're not out to kill anyone's baby. We just want equality and the choice to be in the best interest of the woman. Contrary to popular belief, we aren't vicious sadists. If we should get into the religious side of the argument, then it takes on a whole new form, doesn't it? Yet still in that light, I can't help but be pro-choice. I do respect the view that all life is holy, and life begins at conception, but the circumstances around the pregnancy vary immensely. Social, economi- cal, and ethical factors all play a huge role in the circum- stances. What if the woman gets impregnated in a rough time in her life, and should she give birth, she would have to put the baby up for adoption. Or, should she keep the baby, both their quality of lives would drop significantly. Should she be forced to give birth? Should she have the right to choose? It then turns into a mercy killing in the eyes of some. All I wish to do is make an attempt to clear the air between the two sides. There are so many facets to this, and I can't come remotely close to talking about all of them. I think its important to remember To each their own. And the question still remains; What would you do?
