Atom, peewee Titans win titles The Oakville Titans atom and bantam squads both completed undefeated seasons in the Mississauga Football League with victories in their respective championship games last weekend. The atom Titans rolled to a 28-6 victory over the SWFA Panthers, while the peewee Titans pulled out a 22-14 victory over the SMFC Colts. Atoms In the atom game, Oakville jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter behind two touchdowns by Coleman Stucke and another major by Mackenzie Dodd. Mitchell White was good on two of three converts for the Titans. Oakville then relied on its defence -- led by Marcus Nikolovski, Connor Smith, Jackson French and Vince Tonin -- to limit the Panthers to one touchdown in the next two quarters, before Titans defensive back Owen Merckley snuffed out a Panthers drive with an interception in the fourth quarter. Oakville's offensive line of Matthew Saunders, Lucas Sharpen, Michael Pastorek, Chas Murray and Cameron Sanders took over from there, dominating the line of scrimmage to lead a 105-yard drive that concluded with another TD run by Dodd, putting the game out of reach. Also contributing to the atoms' win were Kaidan Gilbert, Scott Bucher, Taylor Conn, Carter Stewart, Cameron Thomas, Max Townsend, Gregory Campbell and Thomas Virth. The Titans are coached by Jason Gilbert, Glen French, Richard White, Richard Dodd and James Nikolovski, and Manny Sharpen is the manager. Peewees The peewee contest saw Oakville win the game on its final drive. The Titans took possession on their own 45-yard line with two minutes to go in a 14-14 game and Braeden Webber finished the drive with a three-yard run to account for the winning touchdown, running behind the blocking of Jimmy Bateman, Joseph Peters and Stewart Allen. Andre Freitag added a two-point conversion. Oakville had been held scoreless until the end of the first half, when it struck for a 50-yard touchdown pass from Nick Mardner to Pearson Foley. Freitag added a two-point convert to give the Titans an 8-7 halftime lead. After the Colts retook the lead with a touchdown on their first possession of the second half, Oakville answered right back with a rushing touchdown by Webber, tying the game 14-14. The Titans' league-leading defence held the Colts scoreless the rest of the way as Sukhi Hundal, Noah Hamilton, Liam Williamson, Connor Buchanan and Freitag dealt several hard hits in the Colts backfield.
