Letters to the editor Continued from page 6 11 · Friday, March 23, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com At curling club each time they wanted a change and we had to pay for each change that the architect made to the drawings. We could have had our parking difficulties solved and the lot paved in the early fall, but procrastination on the part of the Town and constant demands for seemingly trivial changes meant that by the time we finally did get approval, the asphalt plants could not deliver because of the onset of winter. So, what is the major cause of concern when it comes to congestion in the town centre? What is the obstacle on the pathway to free up the streets downtown? In my opinion, four words: The Town of Oakville. Michael Maurice, Oakville Oakville Galleries is very busy at Gairloch Gardens The board of directors of Oakville Galleries was surprised to read Ray Konrad's recent letter to the editor, in which he questioned what purpose staff at the Galleries serve, as "rarely is there anything happening" in Gairloch Gardens. Many Oakvillians will know Gairloch estate has long been home to Oakville Galleries: with the co-operation of the Town of Oakville, we have been grateful tenants in Gairloch Gardens for more than 30 years. Gairloch is just one of Oakville Galleries' homes. We also operate the gallery space at Centennial Square, and offer numerous award-winning art programs throughout the community -- in schools, public libraries, seniors' residences, community gardens and other neighbourhood centres. We're pleased to deliver more than 100 community programs, art activities and special events in Oakville annually alongside our exhibitions. In 2011, nearly 20,000 people participated in our programming and the numbers are growing. While the extensive work that makes these programs happen occurs in the Galleries' administrative offices at Gairloch estate, we appreciate this might not be immediately visible to visitors of the gallery. Our board takes great pride in the strength and diversity of our programs and would be pleased to invite any interested citizens to sit down with our director Matthew Hyland (905-844-4402), to hear about the Galleries' activities and discuss what our local art museum could be do to meet the needs of our community.
