www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, June 1, 2012 · 10 A new generation of music, K-Pop, making its way overseas By Jamyang Choetso and Michelle Kim Grade 9, T. A. Blakelock H.S. K -pop (Korean pop) is a new form of music that originated in South Korea, but is now internationally famous. K-pop has spread all over theInternetthroughFacebook, YouTube, iTunes, and Twitter profiles. This has also been noticed by the entertainment businesses and K-pop has become a new phenomenon. Those in the entertainment business decided to expand K-pop and started holding global auditions, making reality TV programs, and having performers go on world tours. SM Town, which is a concert held by many artists in the music business, has become widely known around the world because of performances at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, and Madison Square Garden in New York. They played for an audience of more than 15,000 at each venue. Also, because of their popularity worldwide, they played in Paris, France, too. They have even performed for 6,000 fans, but because the At The King's Court Banquet Hall (1159 King Rd., Burlington) Outstanding estate auction from several local estates Including that of Winfield, Harvey, Round, Underhill and others Large Swarovski Crystal collection (over 100 pcs.), Royal Doulton figurine collection, Hummel/Goebel collection(over 50 pcs.), doll collection, Royal Albert "American Beauty" dinner service, Royal Albert "Val Dor" dinner service, Royal Albert "Lavender Rose" dinner service, Paragon "Debutante" dinner service, Denby, Wedgewood dinner service, assortment of quality cups and saucers, Moorcroft vase, Swarovski jewelry Good selection of antique and contemporary furnishings Gibbard 5 Pc. K-pop has grown so big that Korean pop stars are able to debut in the U.S. and even win some popular American music awards. A K-pop group named Big Bang recently won an award for best worldwide act at the MTV Europe Music Awards beating other international stars. Recently, there was an audition in Toronto for Star Museum (SM) entertainment. There was also a concert in Toronto including K-pop soloists, groups and Korean rock bands held for 500 people of all ages. K-pop is popular not just because of how active they are but also because they show a lot of care and affection for their fans. People see these idols for their looks, fashion, talent, and sense of humour but also to see them interact with their fans. Entertainment industries like JYP nation, YG entertainment, and SM Town refer to each other as family. On talk shows, they all share funny and embarrassing stories, and also experiences that they have had as they debut. Another big part of Korea's entertainment is television. This is the place where singers and dancers show that they are fun, outgoing, joyful personalities that make viewers always happy and excited to watch. What makes people love K-pop so much? I think it's everything from their perfect vocal ability to their synchronized dance moves and their stage presence. The choreography is very fun to follow, a good way to exercise and keeps your body very flexible with all the different types of dance styles. Language is not a barrier with K-pop music. No matter what language you speak or the fact that you can't speak Korean, is not a problem. We all learn. It's amazing how quickly we can learn lyrics from a different language when we just listen to the song -- the lyrics just stick in your head and the next time you listen to it you already know some of the lyrics. Well, we've told you all about K-pop and now it's up to you guys to decide. What do you think about the development of K-pop?
