He shows leadership in all facets of school life including, athletics, in the field sports and on the court, academics, personal excellence as a group leader, and the arts in his commitment to the music program. Nathan gives and gets respect from his peers and his teachers. · Sofia Tencer, Munn's: Sofia consistently demonstrates a positive attitude towards her peers and school community. She generously gives her time to numerous school wide events: volleyball, band, student ambassadors, peer helpers and track and field along with a committed involvement with the Oakville Gymnastics Club. Sofia demonstrates confidence and excellence towards her learning and involvement in extra-curriculars. She continually strives for excellence by going above and beyond in the classroom. · Julia Walber, New Central: Julia is a truly amazing student and individual. She is highly motivated and committed to both her academic pursuits and her co-curricular activities. Julia is a globally and critically minded learner, who has taken on a strong leadership role at New Central. · Riaz Mahmud, Oakwood: Riaz Mahmud was selected as Oakwood's Student Excellence candidate because he demonstrates excellence in academics, athletics, self-improvement, citizenship and student leadership in class and co-curricular activities. He consistently offers to help other students and teachers, is kind and always thinks of others before himself. He continuously seeks ways to improve his work and continues to exceed expectations for performances and assignments. Jovan makes a positive difference in the lives of those with whom he interacts. · Inam Khan, Pilgrim Wood: Inam is respected by staff and peers for his solid academics, his work ethic and his involvement in school life. Inam is involved with the arts through his membership in the concert band and the vocal ensemble. His sports participation includes interschool basketball, volleyball, track, and cross-country. Inam has also been a Q.D.F. leader and is an active member in many clubs including the French Club, the Green Club and Think Bowl. He demonstrates a kind and caring attitude and is respectful to all staff and students. He is a highly-regarded member of Sheridan Public School. · Mara Lach, Sunningdale: Mara is a very committed student who consistently sets goals for herself and always puts forth her best effort. She is a natural leader who exudes confidence in the classroom. Mara enjoys challenges both academically and with her involvement in sports and truly believes that she should "never turn down an extra experience." Mara demonstrates a kind and caring attitude and contributes to the school community through her involvement in the Me to We Club, volleyball, band, Right to Play as well as coaching Grade 5 and 6 volleyball. · Kaushar Mahetaji, W.H. Morden: Kaushar is a caring, involved, and highly devoted student at W.H. Morden who has a tremendous sense of determination and drive. She is involved in numerous clubs in school including the eco-team, athletic council, choir, concert band, and the social justice club. Along with her involvement at Morden, she makes academics her No. 1 priority and has won many awards outside of school, such as a silver medal in the Halton French speech contest, and a gold medal at the 2012 Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF). Kaushar travelled to P.E.I in May for the Canada-wide Science Fair. Outside of school Kaushar enjoys playing badminton and practising taekwondo. · Teaghan Hignett, West Oak: Teaghan Hignett consistently contributes to West Oak Public School in the areas of academics, leadership, and citizenship. Her love for learning is reflected in her strong academic achievements and excellent learning skills. She is actively involved in student council, is a warrior on the volleyball and basketball courts, and has been a member of the trombone section in the concert band for three years. In addition to her involvement in many extracurricular activities, Teaghan is a born leader, and is a coach and mentor for the Grade 6 girl's basketball team; she demonstrates maturity, patience, and respect in many social situations. Teaghan's initiative, determination, and her willingness to help staff members and peers is a model for all students at West Oak.
