New additions to Terry Fox Run "... But I might not make it, and if I don't make it, then the Marathon of Hope better continue." -- Terry Fox, 1980 The Oakville Terry Fox Run is this Sunday (Sept. 16) and all Oakville residents are invited to honour Terry Fox and continue his Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research. The run will be held at family-friendly Coronation Park, on Lakeshore Road, just east of Third Line. Participants are reminded there is no on-site parking. If you are arriving by car, organizers ask you observe all parking rules on nearby side streets. The run begins at 10 a.m., with registration at 9 a.m. Participants can choose to run, walk, bicycle, board, in-line skate, push a stroller or walk the dog along the scenic 5K or 10K route. New this year is a 2K family walk/ run within the park itself. The 9 a.m. opening ceremonies will once again be hosted by former Argonaut and Oakville resident Dan Ferrone. This year's Oakville Terry Fox Run will feature a kids' activity tent, music, food and fun. There will be candy apples for sale for $4 and the Kinsmen Club of Oakville will be selling food and coffee with proceeds going to the run. Terry Fox Run T-shirts will be available for $17 and a limited number of new long-sleeved, run shirts cost $25. All proceeds from T-shirt sales go to the Terry Fox Run. Participants are invited to bring their own water bottles this year and refill them before and/or after the run at Coronation Park. Longos has donated water and fresh fruit, to be available after the run.
