The awards celebrate paid and unpaid caregivers who provide kind, compassionate care to help someone live a fuller life, despite the limitation of age, illness or disability. Any paid or unpaid caregiver is eligible, including family members, friends, neighbours, volunteers, or health care professionals. "We know there are many, many people providing care and support to their loved ones in our community, and the Heroes in the Home Caregiver Recognition Awards are a wonderful opportunity to say thank you," said Caroline Brereton, chief executive officer of the Mississauga Halton CCAC. "A caregiver's work is significant and makes a meaningful difference in the lives of people of all ages. While they don't typically consider themselves heroes, caregivers help seniors remain in their own homes for longer, help people return home sooner to recover from surgery, and help children to attend school, despite frequently overwhelming circumstances." Last year, 123 residents of Mississauga and Halton were recognized as Heroes in the Home, including 23 Oakville residents. All nominees and nominators will be invited to attend one of three award presentations in November. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Oct. 5. To submit a nomination, visit http://heroesinthehomemh.com. The Mississauga Halton CCAC provides in-home and community healthcare, personal support services, information and referral and long-term care placement.
