Ontario trailed the Newfoundlandbased Rock 13-11 at halftime of the Canadian Rugby Championship final, but outscored their opponents 29-3 in the second half. The Ontario Blues lineup includes Oakville Alistair Clark, Jamie Mackenzie and Dan West as well as Ray Barkwill of the Oakville Crusaders. Clark, an Oakville Trafalgar graduate, and Barkwill were also named to the Canadian team that will play at the Americas Rugby Championship. Clark helped Queen's win the Ontario university rugby title in 2009, a year after winning the OUA East MVP award. The round-robin tournament in Langford, B.C. will see Canada square off against Uruguay (Oct. 12), the U.S. (Oct. 16) and Argentina (Oct. 20). Oakville's Adam van Koeverden is one of three finalists for the Canadian Sport Award male athlete of the year. The 30-year-old kayaker won a silver medal in London, the fourth Olympic medal of his career. Swimmers Brent Hayden and Ryan Cochrane are the other nominees. Canada's Olympic bronze-medal winning women's soccer team, including Oakville's Diana Matheson is nominated for team of the year and Canada's men's eights rowing crew, including Oakville's Doug Csima, is up for partners of the year.
