QEPCCC new centre for COPD education By Chris Clay METROLAND MISSISSAUGA Halton and Peel residents suffering from a serious and chronic lung disease can now access an education program in the community and outside traditional healthcare facilities. The Breathe Better -- Live Better education program for those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is offered at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre in Oakville on Mondays, at the Milton Sports Centre Wednesdays and at River Grove Community Centre and Huron Park Recreation Centre in Mississauga on Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively. COPD is a long-term lung disease, often caused by smoking, and causes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It's the fourth leading cause of death among Canadians, with 780,000 people in Ontario living with the disease. The program will provide residents with information on how to prevent and manage the condition.
