Our perennial department is packed & ready to plant! Drivers who opted not to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel paid the price last week during the Halton police Distracted Driving Campaign. Between April 15-19, police stepped up enforcement of the distracted driving legislation pulling over residents who were on their cell phones or otherwise diverting their attention away from the road. In the past, Halton police officers said they have actually pulled people over who were trying to drive while working on their laptops. In total, officers issued 835 provincial offence notices for distracted driving during the campaign. "Motorists need to be cognizant of the inherent dangers associated to driving while distracted and recognize we will continue our enforcement efforts to enhance road safety," said Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner. Police have previously said a distracted driver can be just as dangerous as an impaired driver simply because they are not paying attention to what is happening in front of them. Residents are encouraged to take the pledge and access additional resources at www.halton.ca/distracted and www. halton.ca/driveSAFE. 25% off! Freshen TERRA CARE Up! Blakelock High School, 1160 Rebecca St., early Monday morning. Around 12:35 a.m., the suspects entered the school, possibly through an unlocked window in the school's weight room. The school security system detected the intruders inside and contacted police. Police arrived and saw the three youths leaving the school. An officer chased them on foot, but they got away, fleeing towards the east. A canine unit was brought in, but found only a shoe and black hoodie, apparently discarded by the suspects as they ran.
