Oakville tied a season high for goals with a 7-5 win over the Stouffville Spirit Thursday, but was blanked 5-0 by the Trenton Golden Hawks the following evening. Recently-acquired New Jersey native Dalton Bew scored twice and Greg Allen, Kamil Tkaczuk, Carmine Vietri, Matt Luff and Keigan Goetz added singles in the road victory over Stouffville. The Blades held a 4-0 lead 36 seconds into the second period but the Spirit rallied, twice pulling within a goal before Goetz sealed the win with an empty-netter. Evan Buitenhuis made 44 saves to record the victory in net. Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, the Blades were outshot 43-14 as their winning streak was snapped at five games. Buitenhuis was pulled after allowing four goals on 27 shots. Brendan McGlynn stopped 15 of 16 shots in relief. Oakville (6-4-0) is scheduled to play three games this weekend. The Blades will be home to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Friday for a 7:30 p.m. start, then visit the Aurora Tigers Saturday and Milton IceHawks Sunday. Hornets fall to Toronto, seek first win Friday The Oakville Hornets intermediate AA team is still seeking its first win of the Provincial Women's Hockey League season, following a 3-1 loss in Toronto on Thursday. Jazz Kennedy scored the Hornets' lone marker midway through the third period. The Aeros, who Oakville tied 3-3 two days earlier, scored the first three goals of the contest. The Hornets (0-2-2) will be home to the Bluewater Hawks Friday (8:30 p.m.) and London Devilettes Saturday (4:30 p.m.). Both contests will be played at Joshua's Creek Arenas. After those two matches, Oakville will not play a league game until Nov. 5. Hornets coach Jackie Kendrick said last week that she isn't too concerned about early-season results, considering the off-season turnover the club has gone through compared to other teams. "We will focus on the things we can control: our effort and our attitude," said Kendrick, in her first season behind the intermediate Hornets bench. "We've known from the get-go that it would be a bit of a slower start. We haven't been under the same coaching staff with the same consistent systems as other centres like Stoney Creek or Toronto. We're basically trying to get continuity." The YouTube video from last August (bit.ly/1cE4vZp) is titled `Kinley McNicoll's Goal vs. South Dakota State'. For all but three seconds of the footage of game play, the title is the only indicator of what is about to transpire. The action is well outside the South Dakota State 18-yard-box.
