OMHS lowering rates to adopt rescued cats by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff 3 | Friday, January 10, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com An unusually high cat population at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) has prompted the organization to lower adoption prices for cats that are more than six months of age. The Cornwall Road animal shelter is dropping its adoption rates from $150 to $75 until Jan. 31 -- in the hopes of finding homes for the more than 300 cats that are currently in its care. The adoption fee includes all up-to-date vaccines, spay or neuter surgery, a microchip implant, six weeks of free pet insurance from Pets Plus Us Pet Insurance and a small bag of Hills Science Diet cat food. The first of the cats from the investigation that are ready for adoption are included in the cat adopt-a-thon. "We want each of the cats adopted to go to a loving `forever' home, so our adoption counselors will be working with each potential family to make sure it's a great match," said Stephanie Aleksich, a customer care manager for the OMHS about the adoption application process. For more information about the January adopt-a-thon visit omhs.ca. Luna OMHS officials said the organization is looking for residents to offer up a home to the cats, some of whom were rescued from a Halton Hills home in September.
