Now, Alex is among a cast of 65 people putting on Brampton Music Theatre's production of the Wizard of Oz from April 10-12 at the Rose Theatre, 1 Theatre Ln., in Brampton. Tickets cost $30 for adults, $26 for seniors, and $20 for children (under 12). She said she's "ecstatic" about landing the lead role of Dorothy and hopes the audience will appreciate her spin on the lovable character. "The way I'm playing her, she's a little more curious, a little more in your face and not the naive and scared little girl Judy Garland plays her as," she said, adding her take on Dorothy makes her a bit more "quirky" and open to new experiences. Alex prepared for the role watching actor Danielle Wade's interpretation of the lead character in Toronto's production of the Wizard of Oz last year. The cast has also been rehearsing three times a week and she's been going over the script in her head again and again. "Everyone is buzzing off of everyone else's energy, it's insane. You don't notice how tired you get until intermission." When she's not at school or at theatre rehearsals she's honing her skills with two singing teachers for classical and musical theatre and Grade 5 piano classes. "I want to expand myself to be a better performer," she said, noting how in the past she's performed with Oakville Children's Choir and appeared in Oakville Children's Music Theatre productions. While others may think she's missing out on enjoying a regular teenage life, she noted she doesn't feel that way because she's doing something she "loves more than anything."
