The 17-year-old will be playing her rendition of Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor for The Romantic Violin concert Saturday (April 5) at 8 p.m. and Sunday (April 6) at 2 p.m. at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. The night also features performances of Ludwig van Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, and Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 6 in D. The concert is the third instalment of the orchestra's 2014 concert series, Come Home to the Symphony, which features guest soloists who have a connection to Oakville. Ashworth, who started playing the violin at the age of four, came to the attention of the Oakville Symphony five years ago when she won the Kenneth Hollier Award, an annual scholarship it offers to young string players. Since then, she's played with numerous orchestras and won the Grand Prize in the Canadian Music Competition. Ashworth, who is in Grade 11 and doing courses online, has produced two CDs, Precious Sheridan invites art installation ideas Artists are being challenged to express their creativity and innovation at Sheridan College's Trafalgar Campus in Oakville. The school at 1430 Trafalgar Rd. is encouraging artists to submit a proposal for its annual Temporary Contemporary large-scale art installation for a chance to win $7,000 and have their work installed at the campus for the 2014-15 academic school year. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 2 at noon. Proposals should be submitted as a PDF document to Leslie McGale of the Faculty of Animation Arts and Design by emailing leslie.mcgale@ sheridancollege.ca. A finalist will be selected by a jury on June 10. The winning artwork will be installed at the Trafalgar Campus in Oakville for the 2014-15 academic year in late August. The goal of the installation is to not only bring innovative and original artwork by high profile artists into the Sheridan community, but to enrich the experience of the Sheridan community with stimulating and challenging artwork. It will replace the sculptural work currently on display by Roula Partheniou, a Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the University of Guelph. Dopplekopf 2013 is featured in the Learning Commons area and is made up of two vitrines with mirrored objects, one in colour and the other in shades of grey, highlighting the idea of perception through reflection. Oakville Trafalgar High School's Improv team captured the silver medal at the Toronto Regional Finals of the Canadian Improv Games recently (March 22) at Toronto District Christian High School in Vaughan.
