High winds and torrential rain brought tree limbs down on high voltage lines causing a power outage in the Eastlake area of southeast Oakville at around 5:12 p.m. Oakville Hydro spokesperson Cassandra Umbriaco said approximately 1,200 customers were without power for more than 15 minutes with the majority having their electricity restored within 22 minutes. Power to all homes was restored by 7:40 p.m. Oakville got off considerably easier than some other municipalities with Environment Canada reporting that a tornado had touched down in Angus, Ont., at around 5:20 p.m. The heavy winds were responsible for damaging a number of homes in that area.
