The Halton police Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit laid charges after receiving a report from the Meeting House, a 2700 Bristol Circle church, in early July that prompted an investigation into a male employee. An arrest was made on July 11. Halton police Sgt. Chantal Corner said the alleged victim is a 17-year-old girl. Corner would not comment on the details of when or where the alleged incident took place, but said the girl was associated with the church. Sandra Neufeld, communications director with The Meeting House, confirmed last Friday to the Oakville Beaver that the accused is no longer working at the church. This was also confirmed by Lead Pastor Matt Vincent. "Two weeks ago we became aware that a member of our staff was involved in (alleged) inappropriate conduct with a student. "Immediately upon hearing and verifying this information, we took immediate action including informing Halton Regional Police," he said in a news release. "We take the protection of our children and youth very seriously, and we continue in our commitment to ensure that the Meeting House is a safe place for children, youth and their families." The accused's entry on The Meeting House's `Who we are' web page has been removed from the church's website and videos of him in a related Facebook account have also been taken down.
