Sentiment throughout the hometown arena was that the Rangers had the championship all but wrapped up. But an early surge by the Tigers cut the lead to 5-3 with just over 10 minutes to play. Thanks to outstanding goaltending by Oliver Wren and strong defensive play by Scott Emberely the Rangers were able to hang on for the victory. "After the two quick goals the guys chatted me down," said Wren. "We all pulled together as a team and everything paid off in the end. I'm extremely happy right now." Head coach Roy Gringmuth, who was doused with Mountain Dew after the game, said the win, is a "fabulous feeling." "I knew the boys would come through," he said. "After the third Tigers goal we really worked hard to shut down their offensive gam e." W ren's stellar netminding and the team's all around defensive play in the third period preserved the win and gave Gringmuth his third championship in his last five years as head coach. "This is the best team I've ever coached," he said. "Throughout the entire playoffs we never lost a game." When asked what he plans to do after the game, Gringmuth smiled: "there's going to be a party somewhere tonight." Also scoring for the Rangers was Cory Martin.
