Oakville Legion runner second at Hershey North American meet Oakville Legion Track and Field Club's Daniel Rowe finished second in the 11-12 boys' 800-metre final at the Hershey North American championships earlier this month in Hershey, Pa. The Mississauga resident posted a time of 2:16.85, finishing 0.33 seconds behind winner Derrick Silva of Tucson, Az. Two other Oakville Legion athletes also recently won silver medals at the Athletics Ontario bantam, midget and youth championships at the University of Windsor. Nicholas Mateus was second in the 800m midget boys' race (2:01.96). Mateus, who also placed fourth in the 1,200m event, is competing at the Legion national championships this weekend in Langley, B.C. Isabelle Caruana placed second in the 80m bantam girls' race (10.68 seconds) and added a fourth-place effort in the 150m. Other Oakville Legion runners at provincials included Taja McLean (fifth in midget girls' 100m, eighth in 200m), Charleston Schell (22nd in 1,200m midget girls' race, 26th in 200m), Roshana Baker and Briana Davis (finalists in youth girls' 200m), Austin Irvine and Adam Czach (semifinalists in youth boys' 100m and 200m), Alex Connell (semifinalist in youth 200m) and Elexa Stolzer (personal bests in youth girls' 100m and 300m hurdles).
