She was diagnosed in 1989 with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer similar to Fox's, in her right leg -- the same as Terry. That year, while in treatment, she would join the Terry Fox Run in a wheelchair. Twenty- ve years later, the Oakville resident has participated in the annual fundraiser for cancer research every year since her diagnosis and, along with her daughter Olivia Dennis, now 7, will take part in the local Terry Fox Run Sunday (Sept. 14) at Coronation Park, 1426 Lakeshore Rd. W. "The motivation behind that ( rst joining the Terry Fox Run) was because there were such similarities between Terry's disease and diagnosis to mine, I really connected with his story... and thought, `what a courageous and incredible man,'" said Moody, who has been cancerfree since 1994. Moody notes there was not a large difference in time between when Fox and her each received their cancer diagnoses -- a little more than a decade -- but says the research and knowledge, mostly as a result of the Terry Fox Foundation, was already that much more advanced and doctors were able to save her leg. "If not for Terry Fox, if not for the organization, I may have lost my leg. I may have not overcome my cancer," she said. see Oakville on p.15 Grand OpeninG 2480 Bristol Circle, Oakville 905-829-0556 · www.woodsenseinteriors.com Enjoy a WinE and ChEEsE to CElEbratE our opEning!
