www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, October 24, 2014 | 16 Linbrook a very active learning environment: head of school continued from p.12 extremely successful in the first couple of weeks into the school year. We've had such positive comments from the parents. It's lovely to hear," said Way. Linbrook provides JK-Grade 8 students with "differentiated learning," she said, which is a program that allows students to work at their skill level. "If they can work above grade level in a subject, then that's where they work. If they need a little extra support, we do that as well. So it requires a lot of coordination and a lot of assessment," said Way. "Our boys are pre-assessed before every unit they do." The head of school said Linbrook is a "very active learning environment," noting its classrooms have beanbags, moving chairs, high tables for students who wish to stand while working and high stools for those who want to move around. "Studies have shown that movement improves memory. We built that right into our curriculum, our furniture and environment. The classrooms are really big, too," said Way, noting class sizes are 18 students. "There is lots of room for them to move around." As part of its curriculum, Linbrook will soon be launching a free mobile app on all smartphones that will allow parents to log into their child's homepage and view their homework and notes from the teacher, as well as school updates. "Technology has been really big with us. Computers are important because they (students) get to do their work on them. It makes a big difference," said Way. Since the boys' school has filed for charity status, community involvement is important for Linbrook. Way noted its Me to We club will be supporting a number of local charities, which the students have yet to choose. "As a charity ourselves, we know the importance of giving back and supporting one another. We have a very strong parent population as well and they're supporting us with that and as well as our community."
