Question may improve voter turnout (Continued from page A1) prepare a bylaw for council consideration that would ban all pesti cide use on private property as of April 2005. A newly-elected council could choose to change that plan, depending on the results of the referendum. "It will give a clear direction to the next term of council what the people of Oakville want," noted Ward 5 councillor Janice Caster. A number of councillors added that the existence of the question may raise voter turnout and will likely encourage debate around the issue of pesticide use. "You're going to see people on all sides of this issue getting out there to engage the public," said Knoll. Individuals, groups or corporations who spend money to lobby the public vote on the question are required under the Municipal Act to register with the town clerk's office. The spending limit for any organization or individual working to affect the outcome of the referendum vote is set by the Municipal Act at 50 cents per voter. Travis Lopez "They were such good friends and good guys. Travis was wonderful, always made you smile when you were feel ing sad." said Lopes' girlfriend. Andrea Pavao. adding that the pals shared a passion for cars. "His manner put everybody at ease." Marcello Pontello, owner of a Jiffy Lube where the young men were employed, said they were both outstanding workers. Another employee, Mike Arial. described the youths as bright and full of life with "great lives to look forward to." Lifecare Centre has received 63 new residents (Continued from page A1) Province said Lifecare could be used for SARS patients, if required. Despite what appears to be a leveling-off of SARS cases in Ontario, the possibility Lifecare could house SARS patients remains. "At this point the ministry still has no plans to transfer SARS-exposed patients to the facility, but the situation is ongoing." said Tanya Cholakov, Ministry of Health spokesperson. All the Lifecare residents have been transferred and dispersed among six facilities. So far 63 acutecare patients have been moved into Lifecare, which has a 206-bed capacity. Burlington M PPCam Jackson and Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh have been very critical of their gov ernment's handling of the patients' transfers and have demanded an inquest. Jackson was especially upset at the notion the residents were moved under the Emergency Plans Act, which the government says gives it authority to make sure facilities and equipment it needs are available. Jackson has questioned why patients were removed from their home under such an act when the facility wasn't being prepared to be used for SARS patients. Over 65? fee-up Capital.
