Council voted unanimously Monday to honour the memory of the Canadian hero by designating the second Sunday after Labour Day each year to remember him. Ward 2 Town Councillor Pam Damoff and Ward 1 Councillor Ralph Robinson, both of whom have chaired the annual Oakville Terry Fox Run, brought forward the motion and selected the second Sunday after Labour Day, as this is generally when the Terry Fox Run is held. Queen's Park is currently considering a private member's bill from Scarborough-Agincourt MPP Soo Wong that would make Terry Fox Day across Ontario a reality. Fox inspired the nation and the world through his struggle against cancer and his determination to raise funds for cancer research. Not long after losing his leg to cancer, Fox decided to run across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research.
