He spoke with the Oakville Beaver last week after a presentation on safety in the workplace by Rob Ellis, founder of MySafeWork, and his daughter, Jessica Di Sabatino. The April 13 seminar drew more than 40 business and community leaders, including Flynn and Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School as it informed students of the dangers of unsafe working conditions. "The government has a role to play with the rules and regulations we put in place. We're always seeking advice on how we can do a better job of that. The employees need to understand they've got a role to play as well," said Flynn. "They have the right to refuse unsafe work, they've got the right to training and orientation. They can ask for those things." Flynn said employers must understand their "most valuable asset" is staff, not equipment, products or ideas. Sweetlegs... Most comfy leggings ever! If you understand the people you've got, the employees you've got, are your best assets, then you need to make sure they're safe and healthy," said Flynn. While Ontario is considered to have among the safest workplaces in North America, Flynn said, "We don't rest on our laurels." He noted the Province has seen workplace accidents reduced by 40 per cent in the past decade. see Father on p.17 1510 Speers Rd.
